The Relationship
Diplomacy experienced in public
Panama and Japan marked 120 years of diplomatic relations in 2024. The anniversary carried institutional significance, but its meaning also belonged to the people whose lives, memories and work had grown within that relationship.
Puentes y Diálogos became the Panama chapter of a double celebration that would later continue in Japan. It gave the bilateral story a public, artistic and human form.
The Encounter
Music carrying the relationship
The concert and dialogue format brought the history between Panama and Japan into lived experience. Music created an entry point through which institutional history could be felt personally.
Artists, diplomats and families gathered around the same bilateral story. The event recognized the people who had carried the relationship while creating a new memory for those encountering it in the present.
This Panama chapter and the later Min-On program in Japan were two expressions of the same anniversary, designed at different scales and in different cultural settings.
What Emerged
One relationship, two countries
The anniversary became more than a date in the diplomatic record. In Panama, the relationship was experienced through a shared cultural event; in Japan, its next chapter involved institutions, artists and children.
